BRADENTON, Fla. - The Fairfield University baseball team split a pair of games against Eastern Kentucky and Eastern Illinois, during its spring break trip at the IMG Sports Academy on Tuesday. In the first game, the Stags defeated Eastern Kentucky 6-4, but fell 6-0, in the nightcap to Eastern Illinois.

Freshman Doug Ciallella (Clifton, N.J./Clifton) picked up his first collegiate victory, giving up three runs on six hits and three walks in five innings of work. Freshman Dan Gallagher (Allendale, N.J./Bergen Catholic) was spotless in one and two thirds innings, allowing only one walk, while recording a strikeout, earning his first career save.

Fairfield (3-6) scored one run in the first inning, three in the third and single runs in the sixth and seventh innings, in the first game of the day, against Eastern Kentucky.

Junior Brian Schappert (Wyckoff, N.J./Saint Joseph's University) continues to be an offensive spark for the Stags. He reached base five times as he went 2-for-2 with a run batted in, two runs scored and three walks. Entering today's game, Schappert had a .514 on base percentage, and hitting .414 (12-29).

Senior Shortstop Doug Anderson (Randolph, N.J./Delbarton) was 2-for-4 at the plate with two runs and two walks. Sophomore Peter Allen (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) had a two-run single in the third inning.

In the nightcap against Eastern Illinois, Anderson was 2-for-3 with a walk, and sophomore Albie DeSimone (Pelham, N.Y./Pelham Memorial) was 2-for-4.

Fairfield returns to action on Wednesday, as it faces Indiana University at the IMG Sports Academy.
