BRADENTON, Fla. - Sophomore Doug Anderson (Randolph, N.J./Delbarton) smacked a two-run homerun in the bottom of the sixth inning to lift the Fairfield University baseball team to a 4-3 win over Columbia at the Baseball Academy on Wednesday morning.
Anderson finished the day 1-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored, as the Stags (2-4) had five hits in the seven-inning game.
After Columbia (0-9) crossed the plate three times in the top of the third inning, the Stags came to bat in the home half, to score twice off a senior Andy Lynn (Montville, N.J./Delbarton) double to left field to bring home senior Nick Hudyma (New Britian, Conn.) and senior Mike Wray (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac)
Senior Matt Young (Berlin, Conn./Berlin) went the distance for Fairfield picking up his first win of the season. Young scattered three runs on five hits, while striking out three Lion hitters. His only trouble came in the third inning as the Lions scored three runs on three hits.
