BRADENTON, Fla. - On the final day of its spring break trip to Florida, the Fairfield University baseball team, defeated Bradley University, 3-0, on Friday at the IMG Sports Academy.
Junior lefty Ed Kamintzky (Astoria, N.Y./Regis) pitched eight shutout innings, to get the win for the Stags (4-8). Kamintzky (2-2) walked two and struck out three en route to gaining his 10th career victory for the Stags.
Junior Michael Colucci (Bayonne, N.J./St. Peter's Prep) was perfect in one inning of work, to get the save, the first of his career.
Fairfield scored single runs in the second, sixth, and seventh innings, while keeping the Braves off the board.
Senior catcher Tom Arpino (Brooklyn, N.Y./Xaverian) was 2-for-3 with a run scored, and sophomore Peter Allen (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) was 1-for-2 with a run batted in, as the Stags pounded out five hits on the afternoon.
Fairfield finishes its trip to Florida with a 3-4 record, and snaps a three-game losing streak. Today's game, was the first ever meeting between the two schools.
After playing seven games in six days, the Stags will be off Tuesday, March 21, as they will host St. John's University, in the 2006 home opener at Alumni Diamond. The next day, they will host Central Connecticut State. First pitch on both days is slated for 3 p.m.
