NORRISTOWN, Pa. - The Fairfield University baseball team split a double header with Saint Joseph's University on Saturday afternoon, winning 7-2 in the opener, but getting edged in the nightcap, 3-2 at Elmwood Park.

In the opener, Fairfield (1-10) pounded out a season-high 13 hits, and received a quality start from senior Tim Dugan (Cedar Grove, N.J./Seton Hall Prep), who went seven innings, giving up only one unearned run on four hits, while walking only three batters.

Dugan (1-2) was in command, as he struck out 10 Saint Joseph hitters. Junior Sean Keegan (Middlebury, Conn./Pomperaug) pitched two innings of relief for the Stags, giving up one run on two hits and one walk. He struck out two batters.

After Saint Joseph's pushed across a run in the bottom of the first inning, off an unearned run, the Stags scored four runs on three hits in the top of the fifth inning. Freshman Bryan Rudolph (Washington Township, N.J./Bergen Catholic) started the Fairfield rally, by reaching on a two-out error by the Saint Joseph's shortstop.

Rudolph advanced to second, after freshman Adam Chilelli (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) was hit by a pitch. Senior Mark Geanuleas (Huntington Valley, Pa./Academy of the New Church) put Fairfield on the board, lacing a single to right field, to plate Rudolph.

Junior Jim Girolamo (Wayland, Mass./Wayland) then singled to center, scoring Chilelli for the go-ahead run. Junior Doug Anderson (Randolph, N.J./Delbarton) was next up for Fairfield and he reach base on an error, as Geanuleas scored to make it 3-1 in favor of the Stags.

Junior John Scaife (Ansonia, Conn./Ansonia) then stroked an RBI single up the middle to bring in Girolamo.

The Stags would add two more runs in the top of the seventh inning. Girolamo reached on a fielder's choice, and would later steal second base. Anderson then singled through the left side of the infield, to score Girolamo's second run of the afternoon.

Scaife was Fairfield's next hitter, and he smacked a double to the centerfield fence, bringing in Anderson from first base.

Fairfield would add one more in the eighth, as Rudolph led the inning off with a single, later advancing to third on a Chilelli single. But, the next two batters were retired, and Anderson lined a single through the left side on the infield, plating Rudolph for Fairfield's seventh run of the first game.

Saint Joseph's scored one run in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Anderson finished the first game going 3-for-4 at the plate with two runs batted in and a run scored. Scaife was 2-for-4 with two runs batted in. Geanuleas and Ruldolph were each 2-for-5 at the plate, as Geanuleas drove in a run, and scored once, while Rudolph crossed the plate twice.

In the nightcap, Fairfield broke the ice with a run in the top of the second inning, off a junior Dewey Raymond (Norwalk, Conn./Trinity Catholic) RBI single, scoring freshman Peter Allen (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) who led the inning off with a single to right field.

Saint Joseph's scratched a run across in the very next inning, and would take the lead in the bottom of the third with one run on three hits.

Fairfield tied it in the top of the fifth inning as Girolamo reached on an error, scoring Raymond who drew a walk to lead the inning off for the Stags.

Saint Joseph's scored in the bottom of the ninth inning with a two-out single by Greg Mason, scoring Matt Godusky for the walk-off hit.

Fairfield starter sophomore Ed Kamintzky (Astoria, N.Y/Regis) gave up two runs on eight hits, and one walk, while striking out a season-high eight hitters.

Raymond led Fairfield at the plate going 2-for-3 with a run scored and a run batted in. Allen was 1-for-4 with a run scored.

Fairfield was to play Temple University on Sunday in the finale of the Villanova Baseball Bash, but snow forecasted in the Philadelphia area, forced all the team participating in the tournament to play doubleheaders on Saturday to get three games in.

The Stags will now be back in action on Tuesday afternoon, for a 3 p.m. first pitch at St. John's University. The next day, the Stags will play the 2005 home opener against Central Connecticut State, for a 3 p.m. first pitch at Alumni Diamond.
