FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Senior catcher Tom Arpino's (Brooklyn, N.Y./Xaverian) base hit in the bottom of the sixth inning, and two and two-thirds scoreless innings from freshman Dan Gallagher (Allendale, N.J./Bergen Catholic) proved to be the difference, as the Fairfield University baseball team defeated LeMoyne College, 4-3, on Sunday afternoon at Alumni Diamond.

Fairfield takes the first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) series of the season, from the Dolphins after splitting a doubleheader, winning 4-3 in 12 innings and a 6-0 loss on Saturday.

Senior John Scaife (Ansonia, Conn. /Ansonia) was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Sophomore Albie DeSimone (Pelham, N.Y./Pelham Memorial) was 1-for-3 with a two run single in the bottom of the second inning, giving Fairfield a 2-0 lead.

Freshman Doug Ciallella picked up the win for the Stags, despite giving up 10 hits in six and a third innings. Gallagher came on in the seventh with one on and one out, and got the next eight outs for the Stags.

Keith Connors led Lemoyne going 2-for-4 with a homerun and two runs batted in. Ben Gala was 1-for-4 with a homerun.

Fairfield returns to action on Tuesday as they host the University of Connecticut at Alumni Diamond. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
