Box Score

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. - Senior Andy Lynn (Montville, N.J./Delbarton) was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and a run batted in, to help the Fairfield University baseball team to a 7-4 win over Central Connecticut State University at Balf Savin Field on Tuesday afternoon. The win avenges the Stags 9-5 loss to the Blue Devils at Alumni Diamond, last Wednesday.

Fairfield (4-9, 1-2 MAAC) wasted little time put a run on the board, as Sophomore Doug Anderson (Randolph, N.J./Delbarton) singled to left field to bring home Lynn, who singled to center for the Stags first hit of the game.

Central Connecticut (12-6-1) responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first, as Keith Stegbauer and Rob Hosgood each scored a run while Tim D'Aquila and Phil Rothkuel posted runs batted in, for the Blue Devils.

In the top of the third inning, Fairfield scored a pair of runs to take a 3-2 lead. Lynn scored on a wild pitch, and sophomore Tom Arpino (Brooklyn, N.Y./Xaverian) grounded out to the Central Connecticut shortstop to bring home senior Antuan Barnett (Bronx, N.Y./Rice).

However, the Blue Devils had an answer in the bottom of the inning with a pair of runs to regain the lead. Three hits, including RBI singles from Jon Riggleman and Brad Muldoon, led to the two runs in the inning.

Fairfield added a run in the fourth, with a sacrifice fly by Lynn, to plate senior Mike Wray (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac). The Stags also added a run in the top of the fifth, as sophomore John Scaife (Ansonia, Conn./Ansonia) singled to right field to bring home Anderson.

In the seventh inning, Wray laced a single down the left field line bringing home Anderson, and sophomore Jim Girolamo (Wayland, Mass./Wayland) grounded out to bring home Scaife, for the Stags seventh run of the game.

Freshman Ed Kamintzky (Astoria, N.Y./Regis) pitched five innings in relief to collect his first collegiate victory. The lefthander hurled five innings of shutout ball, giving up only three hits and one walk. Fairfield starter Sean Keegan (Middlebury, Conn./Pomperaug) pitched four innings yielding four runs on seven hits, and five walks.

Anderson finished the afternoon 3-for-5 for the Stags with two runs scored and one run batted in, while Scaife was 3-for-5 with a RBI and a run scored. Hosgood, D'Aquila and Muldoon each had a pair of hits and an RBI in the loss for the Blue Devils.

Senior Nick Hudyma (New Britain, Conn./New Britain) was 2-for-5 for the Stags in his return to his hometown, and also swiped his 10th stolen base of the season.

Fairfield returns to action on Thursday, April 1, when it hosts the University of Connecticut at Alumni Diamond. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
