FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Fairfield University baseball team found itself on the losing end of a pitchers duel this afternoon as Saint Peter's Mike McGuire delivered a two-out RBI single in the eighth inning to lift the Peacocks (16-14, 6-3 MAAC) to a 1-0 victory against the Stags (6-14, 4-5 MAAC) at Alumni Diamond.

Junior Chris Innis (3-2) picked up the win for the Peacocks throwing a complete game shutout. Innis allowed five hits and walked five batters along with nine strikeouts. Senior Ed Kamintzky (Astoria, N.Y.) tossed a gem in the loss, going eight innings with just two walks and three strikeouts. With his strikeouts, Kamintzky tied Tom Maisano for fourth on the career list with 180th career strikeout.

Both teams went scoreless until the eighth inning, but had chances early on. Fairfield threatened in the bottom of both the sixth and seventh innings, putting a pair of runners on base with one out. Each time, Innis was able to pitch out of the jam to strand the baserunners.

Kamintzky cruised during the fifth and sixth innings setting down seven straight batters before Santo Maertz doubled in the seventh inning. Kamintzky would put down the next four batters until Dave Alexander drew a two-out walk in the eighth inning. David Lewandoski followed with a single to left centerfield to push Alexander to third base. After working the count full, McGuire was able to slice his game-winning single to left field to plate Alexander.

Junior Peter Allen (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) singled to start the bottom of the eighth inning and stole second base but the Stags could not advance him. With one out in the bottom of the ninth, junior Adam Chilelli (Garden City, N.Y) walked but became the Stags' 11th stranded baserunner of the game.

Allen finished the day 1-for-3 with a walk and now has reached safely in 27 consecutive games. Junior Albie DeSimone (Pelham, N.Y.) went 1-for-3 with a walk and two stolen bases.

Senior Michael Colucci (Bayonne, N.J.) pitched one inning in relief allowing just one hit and two walks.

Fairfield is back in action on April 10 when it travels to St. John's for a 3p.m. start. The Stags will resume MAAC play April 14-15 against Iona at Alumni Diamond.
