AMHERST, Mass. - Senior designated hitter Chris Morgan went four for five with three doubles, three runs scored and two runs batted in, to lead the University of Massachusetts to a 15-9 victory over the Fairfield University baseball team at Earl Lorden Field. The Minutemen pick up their fourth straight victory to improve to 8-9 on the season, while the Stags fall to 5-15-1.

In addition to Morgan, a number of other Minutemen had big days at the plate. Senior outfielder Matt Boulanger (Westfield, Mass.) went four for five with a double, a home run and two RBI, while senior first baseman Jeff Altieri (Whitinsville, Mass.) homered and drove in three runs. Junior third baseman Matt Reynolds (South Boston, Mass.) was three for five with a triple and a pair or runs batted in, while junior shortstop Mike Athas (Holyoke, Mass.) and junior second baseman Cullan Maumus (New Orleans, La.) added two hits each.

Outfielder Greg Batista led Fairfield at the plate, going two for six with a double, a home run and three runs scored, while outfielder Antuan Barnett was two for four with three runs batted in. Other Stags to collect two hits in the game were outfielder Andy Lynn, second baseman Nick Hudyma and designated hitter Greg Leaver.

The Minutemen used nine different pitchers in the game, after not playing in over a week due to the weather. Freshman righthander Matt Torra (Pittsfield, Mass.) picked up the win, after throwing a scoreless inning in the third. Sophomore lefthanders Keith Doherty (Quincy, Mass.) and Scott Ratliff (Helendale, Calif.) also pitched scoreless innings for UMass. Righthander Steve Tyburski took the loss for Fairfield, allowing five earned runs on seven hits in 1-2/3 innings of work.
