Game One
Game Two

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Fairfield University baseball team split a doubleheader with Yale University in non-conference action. The Stags (9-18) took the opening game by a score of 7-2 while the Bulldogs (11-22) captured the second game, 3-0.

Fairfield had 11 hits in game one, including multi-hit performances by junior Albie DeSimone (Pelham, N.Y.), freshman Matt Tiagwad (Mt. Laurel, N.J.) and sophomore Dave Jermine (North Haven, Conn.). DeSimone went 3-for-4 with two runs scored while Tiagwad went 2-for-4 with two runs batted in. Jermine went 2-for-2, including a double, with two runs scored.

Senior Michael Colucci (Bayonne, N.J.) picked up his first win of the year after allowing just one hit in three scoreless innings of relief. Rookie Mike Fournier (Fairfield, Conn.) tossed a scoreless ninth inning allowing just one hit. Senior Ed Kamintzky (Astoria, N.Y.) started for the Stags allowing two runs on four hits in three innings of work.

Fairfield started the scoring by plating two runs in the top of the first inning. The Stags then added two more runs in the top of the third inning to take a 4-1 lead. Yale got one of the runs back in the bottom half of the inning on a solo homerun by Ryan Lavarnway. Both teams went scoreless until the seventh inning when the Stags put up a three spot. In that inning, Jermine scored on an RBI single by Brian Rudolph (Washington Twp., N.J.). Two batters later, junior Mike Weiner (Easton, Conn.) delivered a two-run double to centerfield to put Fairfield ahead, 7-2.

Yale had the stingy pitching staff in game two, allowing just four Fairfield hits. Chris Wietlispach and John Henry Davis held the Stags hitless for the first three innings. Jermine broke that drought with a leadoff single in the top of the fourth inning. The Bulldogs would score three times in the first two innings but it was all that Yale needed.

Sophomore Doug Ciallella (Clifton, N.J.) took the loss giving up three runs on five hits, along with four strikeouts, in three innings of work. Freshman Kevin Fico (Stamford, Conn.) pitched two scoreless innings of relief giving up just one hit. Freshman Dan Urbanovich (Nutley, N.J.) tossed a scoreless and hitless seventh inning strikeout out two of the three batters he faced.

Junior Peter Allen (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) had his on-base streak halted at 31 games. The designated hitter recorded a hit in first game, but was unable to reach base in the nightcap.

Fairfield will travel to Canisius this weekend for a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) match-up.
