NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Fairfield University baseball team dropped a doubleheader to Yale, on Wednesday evening, at Yale Field.

In the first game, Fairfield (7-25) built a 5-0 lead, but the Bulldogs (18-13) scored two runs in the second and four runs in the third to take the lead for good.

Fairfield posted a pair of runs in its first at-bat, as junior Jim Girolamo ripped a double down the left field line, bringing in senior Mark Geanuleas who led the inning off, getting hit by a pitch. Then junior Doug Anderson laced a single into shallow right field to plate Girolamo.

Fairfield would add to its lead in the second, scoring three runs on three hits. Freshman Peter Allen singled to right field to lead the inning off, then after a strikeout, and a base hit from Geanuleas, Girolamo was hit by a pitch, to load the bases up. Anderson was able to draw a walk, and Allen scored. Then, Scaife singled to left to bring home Girolamo and Geanuleas.

In the third inning, Yale posted four runs off of two hits to get back in the game. Matt Stone smacked a home run over the left field fence for the Bulldogs first run of the game. Yale loaded the bases then Josh Cox, was hit by a pitch, as the runners moved up, scoring CJ Orrico.

A few batters later, Justin Ankey laced a two-run single up the middle to score Chris Esper, and Eric Rasmussen.

Yale would score two more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, as Jake Doyle smacked a double to left bringing in Stone who singled. Then Orrico singled to right, scoring Doyle.

Orrico had another run scoring hit, with an RBI double in the sixth.

Fairfield would add a run in the top of the seventh, when freshman Adam Chilelli ripped a double to left, scoring Tyler Birrittella who pinch-ran for catcher Tom Arpino.

Scaife was 3-for-4 with two runs batted in. Anderson also had two RBI in the first game going 2-for-3. Girolamo was also 2-for-3 with his eighth double of the season, two runs scored, and a run batted in.

In the nightcap, the Stags posted a run in the top of the first, as Anderson singled to left, and advanced on an error, to plate Geanuleas, who led the game off with an infield single.

However, in the bottom of the first, Yale scored four runs on four hits to take a 4-1 lead. The Bulldogs added a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth to make it 6-1.

In the second game Soucy was 2-for-3 and Anderson was 1-for-2 with the run batted in, and his 14th stolen base of the season. Geanuleas was 1-for-3 with a run scored, while swiping his fifth steal of the season.

Fairfield returns to Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play this weekend, as Niagara University comes to Alumni Diamond for a three-game set. Saturday's doubleheader will begin at 12 p.m.
