BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Fairfield University baseball team dropped a pair of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) games to Canisius this afternoon. The Stags fell 11-1 in the opening game and were edged 4-0 in the final game of the twinbill.

In the first game, the Stags (9-20, 6-7 MAAC) could not get to hurler Mike Goemans, as he tossed a two-hitter, allowing just one unearned run while striking out four Fairfield batters. Canisius (9-27, 4-8 MAAC) got its offense started in the bottom of the second, putting up a four spot. The Stags got on the board in the top of the third inning as junior Albie DeSimone (Pelham, N.Y.) touched home on a single by sophomore Dave Jermine (North Haven, Conn.). The hit would be the last the Stags would get until the sixth inning when DeSimone singled to start the frame. Junior Ryan Calabrese (Wantagh, N.Y.) was tagged with the loss, giving up 10 runs, seven earned, on 10 hits in 4.1 innings of work.

Game two was a pitchers duel between Fairfield's Rob Gariano (Nutley, N.J.) and Canisius' Alex McKenzie throughout the first three innings as both held batters to just one hit. The Griffs, however, struck in the bottom of the fourth on a two-run homer by Brian Gibbs. Canisius added two more runs on a homerun by Kevin Reimer. Gariano picked up the loss giving up four runs on five hits with strikeouts in five innings. Freshman Dan Urbanovich (Nutley, N.J.) threw one scoreless inning in relief. Junior Mike Weiner (Easton, Conn.) went 2-for-3 with a double in the second game.
