Box Score

BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Fairfield baseball team suffered a tough 12-6 loss to Canisius College this afternoon in the series finale. With the loss, the Stags fall to 9-21 overall and 6-8 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) while the Golden Griffs improve to 10-27 overall and 5-8 in the conference.

Junior Peter Allen (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) went 2-for-4 on the day, including a home run, with two runs scored while junior Adam Chilelli (Garden City, N.Y.) went 3-for-5, including a double, with one run scored. Sophomore Michael Joyce (Smithtown, N.Y.) posted two hits on the day.

Fairfield took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second on solo homer by freshman Jason Rago (Fairfield, Conn.) but the Griffs would put up three runs in the bottom half of the inning to take the lead. The Stags pulled within 3-2 as Allen scored on a Chilelli double.

The Griffs pulled ahead 6-2 with three runs in the fourth inning. Canisius added a run in the fifth and three more in the seventh to take a 12-2 advantage.

Fairfield added a run in the top of eighth inning as freshman Bill Rafferty (Schenectady, N.Y.) scored on a fielder's choice. Three Stags crossed the plate in the top the ninth inning. Allen started things off with a solo shot to centerfield. After loading the bases, Rago was able to drive in Philip Espinosa (Commack, N.Y.). Joyce followed with a single up the middle to plate Chilelli.

The Stags pounded out 11 hits but stranded 12 base runners on the day.

Senior Ed Kamintzky (Astoria, N.Y.) took the loss giving up seven runs, six earned, on eight hits along with eight strikeouts.

Fairfield will travel to the University of Connecticut on April 24.
