Game 1 Box Score | Game 2 Box Score
FAIRFIELD, Conn. - LeMoyne scored 12 runs over two games to sweep a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) doubleheader, against the Fairfield University baseball team, on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Diamond. LeMoyne took the first game, 7-0, and also took the nightcap, 5-1.
In the opener, LeMoyne (26-17, 18-2 MAAC) scratched a run across in the top of the third inning, as Keith Conners stroked a two-out double to left centerfield to plate Kyle Brown who had an infield single.
The Dolphins would add an unearned run in the next inning, by Mike Affronti. Brown added another unearned run in the top of the sixth.
Fairfield's (14-22, 9-11 MAAC) best chance to put some runs on the board, came in the bottom of the sixth inning, when senior Nick Hudyma (New Britain, Conn./New Britain) smacked a one-out double to the left centerfield fence, and after a popup, sent senior Antuan Barnett (Bronx, N.Y./Rice) to the plate. Barnett got a hold of a pitch, and for a moment looked like he had his sixth homerun of the season, but the LeMoyne right fielder made a leaping catch to keep the Stags scoreless.
Junior Tim Dugan (Cedar Grove, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) gave up five runs (three earned), on 11 hits and no walks, in eight innings of work for the Stags. Despite being the hard luck loser, Dugan (2-7) struck out nine batters on the afternoon.
Sophomore John Scaife (Ansonia, Conn./Ansonia) was 2-for-3 at the plate for the Stags.
In the nightcap, the Dolphins scored three times in the top of the fifth inning to take a 4-1 lead. The first three runs of the game for the Dolphins were unearned. They would add another run in the top of the sixth inning.
Fairfield's lone run of the afternoon came in the bottom of the seventh inning. When junior David Soucy (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) singled to right, then sophomore catcher, Tom Arpino (Brooklyn, N.Y./Xaverian) ripped his second double of the afternoon to put runners in scoring position for senior Jim Sheridan (Carle Place, N.Y./Carle Place) would grounded out to second to plate Soucy.
Arpino was 3-for-3 in the nightcap for the Stags, while Soucy was 1-for-3 with a run scored. Sophomore Jim Girolamo (Wayland, Mass./Wayland), sophomore Doug Anderson (Randolph, N.J./Delbarton), and Barnett each went 1-for-3.
The two teams will finish the MAAC series on Sunday afternoon, for a Mother's Day tilt slated to begin at 12 p.m.
