FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Fairfield University baseball team dropped the finale of a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) baseball series to LeMoyne College, 13-4, on Sunday afternoon, at Alumni Diamond.
Junior David Soucy (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) led the Stags (14-23, 9-12 MAAC) at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double and three runs batted in. Sophomore Doug Anderson (Randolph, N.J./Delbarton) was 2-for-3 with a run scored, and senior Andy Lynn (Montville, N.J./Delbarton) went 1-for-3 with a RBI and a run scored.
After the Dolphins (27-17, 19-2 MAAC) posted a pair of runs in the top of the first inning, the Stags, got things going, when senior Nick Hudyma (New Britain, Conn./New Britain) drew a one-out walk, and stole second.
Senior Antuan Barnett also drew a walk, to put runners on first and second for Lynn who then stroked a single to right field to plate Hudyma. Soucy was the next batter for the Stags, and he ripped a single to right center field to bring in Barnett.
LeMoyne then broke the game open in the top of the seventh, by posting five runs on two hits and an error.
The Dolphins would add a run in the fourth, and two in the fifth, as rain fell throughout the fourth and fifth innings. The umpires determined to keep playing, and there was no rain delay.
Fairfield put two runs on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning. Anderson and Lynn drew walks, and Soucy's double would bring home the base runners.
LeMoyne added three more runs in the eighth and ninth inning to close the books.
LeMoyne's Kyle Brown finished the day going 4-for-6 with three RBI and a run scored. Keith Conners went 4-for-5 with five runs batted in and three runs scored.
Fairfield returns to action on Saturday, May 15, when it heads to Saint Peter's College to start a three-game MAAC series.
