JERSEY CITY, N.J. - The Fairfield University baseball team split a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) doubleheader with Saint Peter's College on Saturday at Jaroschak Field.

The Stags (15-24, 10-13 MAAC) pounded out 25 hits, and 16 runs in the first game, to take a 16-6 thumping, the Stags were led by senior Antuan Barnett (Bronx, N.Y./Rice) who went 3-for-6 with a double, four runs batted in, and a run scored. Sophomore Jim Girolamo (Wayland, Mass./Mass/Wayland) was also 3-for-6 with two runs scored, and an RBI.

Senior Nick Hudyma (New Britain, Conn./New Britain) was 3-for-5 with three runs scored, senior Andy Lynn (Montville, N.J./Delbarton) was 3-for-4 with five runs scored, and sophomore John Sciafe (Ansonia, Conn./Ansonia) was 4-for-5 with three runs batted in and a run scored.

In the first inning of game 1, the Stags got back-to-back bunt singles from Hudyma and Lynn, and with two outs Hudyma stole home, then Soucy singled to bring in Lynn. In all Fairfield would score four runs on six hits before junior lefty Tim Dugan (Cedar Grove, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) threw his first pitch.

The Stags added another run in the second, as sophomore Doug Anderson (Randolph, N.J./Delbarton) lined a single up the middle to plate Hudyma who led the inning off with a single to right, and advance to second on a balk, and eventually to third on a ground out.

Despite giving up six runs on nine hits, Dugan kept the Peacocks off the board until the sixth inning as he gave up three runs on four hits. The New Jersey native allowed only two hits through the first five innings. He finished the day with two strikeouts to up his season total to 57.

Fairfield added three runs in the top of the fifth, as Anderson stroked a two-out double with the bases load bringing home Lynn, senior Mike Wray (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac), and Scaife.

In the top of the seventh, Fairfield crossed the plate five times, including a two-run double by Barnett, a RBI single by Girolamo, and another two-run double from Sciafe.

The offensive output concluded in the top of the eighth, as Anderson lofted a sacrifice fly to bring home Hudyma, and a RBI base hit from Barnett.

In the night cap, Nick Edwards smacked walk off two-run single in the bottom of the seventh inning, to give the Peacocks a 5-4 win over the Stags. Fairfield continued its hot afternoon, as Hudyma led the game off with a double to right, and came home on an Anderson two-bagger.

However, in the bottom of the first, Saint Peter's scored two runs on two hits and would add another in the bottom of the second.

Fairfield posted a run in the top of the fourth as Girolamo laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Anderson home. Then in the top of the fifth Barnett stroked a two-run double down the right field line to bring in Hudyma and senior Mark Geanuleas (Glenside, Pa./Academy of the New Church) to give the Stags a 4-3 lead.

Sean Spicer pitched a complete-game six-hitter, allowing four runs and four walks, while striking out four for the Stags. Senior Matt Young (Berlin, Conn./Berlin) took the loss for the Stags giving up five runs on eight hits, and a walk, while striking out three.

Anderson was 2-for-2 with an RBI, a run scored and a double, in the backend of the doubleheader for the Stags.
