BUFFALO, N.Y. - Senior Mark Geanuleas (Glenside, Pa./Academy of the New Church) was 4-for-6 with two homeruns and three runs scored, leading the Fairfield University baseball team to a 12-2 win over Canisius College at Demske Sports Complex, Sunday afternoon.
With the win, Fairfield improves to 14-31 overall and 12-12 in the MAAC, while Canisius falls to 9-35 overall and 5-18 in conference action.
The Stags pushed a run across in the first inning, as junior John Sciafe (Ansonia, Conn./Ansonia) ripped an RBI single plating junior Jim Girolamo (Wayland, Mass./Wayland).
Canisius tied it in the bottom of the first with a homerun by Joe Roach, and added another run in the second inning with a sacrifice-fly.
But, Fairfield would pull away scoring the next 11 runs of the game.
In the fourth inning, Fairfield received back-to-back homeruns from Tyler Birrirrella and Geanuleas, and posted two more runs in the fifth inning, with a two-run single by senior David Soucy (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury).
In the seventh, Fairfield added two more runs, with Geanuleas' second round tripper, with a solo shot, and a two-run blast from junior Doug Anderson (Randolph, N.J./Delbarton).
Junior Tom Arpino (Brooklyn, N.Y./Xaverian) lofted a sacrifice fly in the ninth, to close the books on the scoring.
Junior Ed Kamintzky (Astoria, N.Y./Regis) picked up the win, pitching eight strong innings, scattering six hits, while recording three strikeouts.
Fairfield will close out the regular season next weekend, with a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) series against Manhattan College. The teams will play a doubleheader on Friday, with first pitch slated for 12 p.m. at Alumni Diamond. The final game of the season is slated for Saturday at 12 p.m.
