JERSEY CITY, N.J. - Senior Antuan Barnett (Bronx, N.Y./Rice) smacked a three-run homerun in the top of the eighth inning to help give the Fairfield University baseball team a 4-1 win at Saint Peter's in the finale of a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) series against Saint Peter's at Jaroschak Field on Sunday afternoon.

With the win Fairfield takes the series winning two of three against the Peacocks, after a split on Saturday.

Fairfield (16-24, 11-13 MAAC) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when senior Nick Hudyma (New Britain, Conn./New Britain) smacked a leadoff double to center, and sophomore Doug Anderson (Randolph, N.J./Delbarton) brought him home with an RBI ground out.

In the eighth, senior Andy Lynn (Montville, N.J./Delbarton) drew a walk, and Anderson stroked a single to right field, to bring Barnett to the plate. On Saturday, Barnett drove in six Stags, and worked the count and fouled off some decent pitches before getting a hold of a pitch, and taking it over the right field fence.

Senior Pablo Tamayo (Miami, Fla./Ransom Everglades) pitched eight and a third innings to record the win. Tamayo (1-8) scattered one unearned run on six hits, while striking out six on the afternoon.

Saint Peter's lone run came in the bottom of the ninth inning, as Jared Fowler stroked an RBI single to right center to bring home Frank Salvano. Thank would end Tamayo's afternoon, and senior Pat Quinn (Paterson, N.J./Passaic Valley) came on a got the last two outs of the ninth for his second save of the season.

Saint Peter's Dan Cainas took the loss, despite gusty performance on a bad ankle. He allowed four runs on 11 hits, and two walks while going the distance for the Peacocks. He struck out six Stags.

Hudyma led the Stags at the plate going 3-for-5 with a run scored. Barnett, Anderson, junior David Socuy (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury), and sophomore Tom Arpino (Brooklyn, N.Y./Xaverian) each finished the day with two hits apiece.

Fowler went 2-for-4 with a RBI for Saint Peter's.

Fairfield will finish the regular season with a three-game MAAC series at Manhattan May 20-21.
