FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Fairfield University baseball team was picked to finish eighth in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) according to Baseball America's 2004 college baseball preview issue.
The prestigious publication picked defending MAAC Champion LeMoyne to once again represent the MAAC in the NCAA Tournament. Niagara is projected second followed by Marist, Manhattan, Siena, Iona, and Rider. Saint Peter's and Canisius make up the rest of the field.
Head Coach John Slosar enters his 20th season as the Stag skipper, and his 28th year with the baseball program, after spending eight years as an assistant coach.
Fairfield opens the 2004 season with a three-game series at UMBC, March 6-7. From there the Stags will head to Bradenton, Fla. for five games in the "Sunshine State." The Stags will face Northern Illinois on March 14, Miami of Ohio (March 15), Bucknell (March 16), Columbia (March 17), and Dartmouth (March 18).
Fairfield will open the Northern portion of its schedule with a doubleheader against Stony Brook of the America East on Saturday, March 20, with first pitch slated for 12 p.m., on Alumni Diamond.
