EDISON, N.J. - The Fairfield University baseball team was selected eighth in the 2005 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Preseason Coaches' Poll. Recently, the Stags were also chosen eighth in the MAAC, according to Baseball America's conference preview edition.
LeMoyne which has won the last two MAAC titles was tabbed to win the MAAC finishing with 98 points. Niagara finished nine points behind with 89. Marist rounded out the top three with 78 and Manhattan placed fourth with 70. Siena (78), Iona (45), Rider (44), the Stags (35), Canisius (21), and Saint Peter's rounded out the field.
Fairfield finished the 2004 season with a 16-27 overall record and an 11-16 mark in the MAAC.
The Stags open the 2005 campaign with a with a eight-game swing through Virginia. Fairfield will face Virginia Commonwealth with a three-game set March 5-6. Then Fairfield faces Liberty University in a nine-inning game on March 9, and the following day at Radford. Fairfield will close its trip to the Old Dominion State with a three-game series at George Mason on March. 12-13.
