EDISON, N.J. - The Fairfield University baseball team, will look to prove the coaches in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) wrong this season, as the Stags were picked to finish ninth in the 2004 Preseason MAAC Coaches Poll, which was released by the conference on Tuesday afternoon.
LeMoyne, which won the 2003 MAAC Championship, was picked to repeat, receiving all 10 first-place votes, finishing with 100 points in the poll. Manhattan and Niagara tied for second (78). Marist was fourth with 76 points, while Siena finished with 59 points. Rider place sixth (50) followed by Iona (49), Saint Peter's (24), Fairfield 23), and Canisisus (13).
Fairfield opens the 2004 season on March 6, with a doubleheader at UMBC. The Stags open the home portion of its schedule on March 20 with a twin bill with Stony Brook. First pitch against the Seawolves is slatted for 12 p.m. on the Alumni Diamond.
