This Week - The Stags will open up the 1999 season at George Washington this weekend. On Saturday the Stags and Colonials will meet for a doubleheader at 12:00 pm. They will play a single game on Sunday at 12:00 pm.
Coach's Corner - Head Coach John Slosar is in his 15th season at the helm of the Stags and carries a career record of 247-282-6 into the 1999 season. Before taking over the reigns in 1984, Slosar served as an assistant coach at Fairfield for eight years. All totaled, since coming to Fairfield, Slosar has helped the Stags to one MAAC Championship, four MAAC South titles, six ECAC playoff appearances and nine 20-win seasons. In the last four years, Slosar has led the Stags to three seasons of 20 wins or more and two MAAC South Championships, including the 1997 South crown. For his efforts in 1997, he was named MAAC South Coach of the Year.
Captain - The Stags have only one captain on this year's squad. Senior secondbaseman Cristian Jung was named All-MAAC in 1998 after hitting .418, scoring 43 runs, driving in 20 runs and cracking 18 doubles.
The Whammer - Junior outfielder Tom Lopusznick also returns. In 1998 Lopusznick batted .377, scored 40 runs, had 44 RBI, 16 doubles, 6 homeruns, and 17 stolen bases.
Leaders of the MAAC - The Stags lost only two starters from last year's lineup that batted a league-leading .308.
Looking Ahead - After their weekend set, the Stags will continue their road trip with two games at Davidson (3/9 and 3/10), one game at Campbell (3/11) and two at UNC-Wilmington (3/13 and 3/14). When they return north they have two more road dates, at Hofstra on 3/17 and a doubleheader at New York Tech on 3/20. Their first home game will be on 3/21 when they host New York Tech at 12:00 pm.
