FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Behind the left arm of junior Ed Kamintzky (Astoria, N.Y./Regis), the Fairfield University baseball team picked up the first win of the season last Sunday afternoon, in the second game of a doubleheader against the Rams.

Fairfield split with the Rams, falling in the first game, 12-7, and taking the nightcap 10-1.

Now, Fairfield will turn its attention to, preparing for its annual spring break trip. The Stags will meet Duquesne University, on Sunday, March 12 at 10:30 a.m. in Bradenton, Fla. The Stags are slated to play, seven games in six days, during their southern swing.

Fairfield Quick Hits: In the first series of the season at James Madison University, the Stags committed six errors, including three in the opening game of the season ... But, after last Sunday's twin bill, the Stags have not committed an error in 19 innings ... Kamintzky allowed only one run on four hits and two walks in eight innings of work ... He struck out a career-high 10 batters, and needs three more for 100 in his collegiate career ... The Regis High School graduate retired nine of the first 10 batters he faced to start the game ... Senior shortstop Doug Anderson (Randolph, N.J./Delbarton) had a four-game hitting streak snapped in the nightcap of the doubleheader, despite scoring two runs on two walks ... Dating back to last season, Anderson had a seven-game hitting streak ... During the streak, he was 10-of-24 (.417) with a homerun, three runs batted in and five runs scored ... In addition, junior second baseman Brian Schappert (Wyckoff, N.J./Saint Joseph's University) had a six-game hitting streak dating back to last season snapped, in the second game of the Fordham doubleheader ... Schappert hit 11-of-26 (.423) with four runs scored and three runs batted in over the streak ... Sophomore Peter Allen (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) continues his nice start to the 2006 season, as last weekend he hit .250 (4-8) with a double, three runs batted in and a run scored ... Allen is third on the team with a .316 (6-19) batting average ... He also leads the team in doubles (2), and RBI (6).

In the Hole: After returning from Florida, the Stags will host St. John's University in the 2006 home opener against St. John's on Tuesday, March 21 ... First pitch is slated for 3:30 p.m. at Alumni Diamond ... Last season, the Stags defeated the Red Storm, 18-13, at The Ballpark at St. John's.
