Washington, D.C. - George Washington University (5-7) tallied 23 runs on 28 hits to complete a doubleheader sweep of Fairfield University (0-2) on Sunday. The Colonials took the first contest 14-1 and then shutout Fairfield 9-0 in the second game.
In the opener, George Washington scored one in the first inning on a Mike Roberts home run. The Colonials then touched starting pitcher Joe Bruderek (0-1) for seven more in the second inning before pulling away for the 14-1 victory. Fairfield collected only one hit in the game, a seventh inning solo home run by junior rightfielder Tom Lopusznick.
The Stags didn't fare much better in the second game, collecting only three hits in a 9-0 loss. Paul Macchio went 2-for-2 for Fairfield and freshman first baseman Ryan Bittner had his first collegiate hit. Mick Feeley (0-1) took the loss, allowing eight earned runs on nine hits in three and one thirds innings pitched.
The Stags and Colonials will meet again on Monday for a single game at 1:00 pm.
