FAIRFAX, Va. - The Fairfield University baseball team concludes its spring break trip to Virginia with a three-game series at George Mason University on Saturday and Sunday. The two teams will play a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m. on Sunday, and a nine-inning affair on Sunday, with first pitch slated for 1 p.m.

Fairfield is currently 0-5 on its season opening trek, during spring break. The Stags are recently coming off a 15-2 loss to Radford on Thursday afternoon and a 1-0 loss at Liberty on Wednesday.

Against Liberty, the Flames pushed across a run on a groundout in the bottom of the third inning for the game's only run. Fairfield starter Ed Kamintzky gave the Stags a solid outing going the distance. The Astoria, N.Y., native gave up one run on four hits, and four walks while striking out five Liberty batters.

At the plate, junior Jim Girolamo went 3-for-4 with his second double of the season for Fairfield. Girolamo is second on the team in hitting with a .375 batting average, and leads the team in hits with six. The Wayland, Mass., native has smacked two doubles on the season.

Junior John Scaife, who went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored on Thursday against Radford, leads the Stags in hitting with a .385 batting average during the spring break trip. Scaife has a homerun and two doubles among hit five hits on the season.

On the hill the Stags will look to senior Tim Dugan, who pitched a solid outing, in his first appearance of the season, last Sunday at VCU. Dugan pitched seven innings, yielding four runs on five hits, and one walk. The New Jersey native recorded seven strikeouts.

George Mason is 7-3 on the season, after defeating Virginia Tech 2-0, on Monday afternoon. Josh Morrison pitched a gem for the Colonials allowing two hits, while striking out 11 for his first win of the season. Morrison retired the last 14 batters to give George Mason its fourth win in as many days.

Chris Fournier leads the team with a .441 batting average. Fournier has knocked two homeruns, while driving in 11. Matt York is hitting .433 with six runs batted in. Among the starters on the hill, Stacen Gant is a perfect 3-0 with a 1.93 earned run average. Gant has struck out 18 hitters in 18.2 innings of work.

Following the series at George Mason, the Stags return north, heading to the Philadelphia area for the Villanova Baseball Bash.

The Stags will face the host Wildcats on Friday, March 18, with first pitch slated for 3 p.m. in Plymouth Meeting, Pa. The next day, the Stags will face Saint Joseph's in Norristown, Pa. at 12 p.m., and on Sunday, the Stags will finish the trip to the Philadelphia area with Temple at 12 p.m. in Ambler, Pa.
