EDISON, N.J. - Fairfield University baseball freshman Adam Chilelli (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) earned his first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Rookie of the Week award, as the MAAC announced its weekly awards on Monday afternoon.
The freshman outfielder, hit .300 last week for the Stags, collecting three hits, and driving in two RBI, during Fairfield's season opening trip to Virginia.
Against Radford University on March 10, the Garden City, N.Y., native went 2-for-2 as a pinch-hitter, while knocking in one base runner.
Last time out against George Mason, despite going 0-for-3 he had an RBI groundout for Fairfield's lone run of the afternoon.
Chilelli began his collegiate career in fine fashion against Virginia Commonwealth on March 6. He went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs batted in.
He is second on the team in hitting with a .294 batting average, and leads the team with four runs batted in.
Fairfield is back in action this weekend as it travels to the Philadelphia area for the Villanova Baseball Bash. The Stags will meet the host Wildcats on Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. On Saturday and Sunday, Fairfield will face Saint Joseph's and Temple with first pitch on both days slated for 12 p.m.
