MOWING 'EM DOWN - Sophomore Dan Krines led the Stags to a 3-1 victory over Le Moyne on Saturday, tossing his third complete game of the season and improved to 2-1 on the year. The righty scattered seven hits, allowed just one earned run and struck out three. In the process he lowered his ERA to 2.79 on the year. Opponents are batting a meager .257 against him this year.
MAKING THEM COUNT - Jon Novalis batted .333 (6-for-18) for last week, posting a slugging pct. of .778, with a sacrifice fly and four RBI's. Four of his six hits went for extra bases, including his second home run of the year and the Stags' only two triples of the season. Novalis has 11 hits on the season, eight of them for extra bases (.500 slugging pct.).
SWINGING A HOT STICK - Sophomore first baseman Ryan Bittner also continues to swing a hot bat for the Stags. For the week the lefty batted .333 (6-for-18) with two doubles and two RBI's. He has a hit in all but three of Fairfield's games this year and has hit in 10 of the last 11. Bittner leads the Stag regulars with a .323 avg. (21-for-65) and is tied for second on the squad with eight RBI's.
IMMEDIATE IMPACT - Freshman hurler Paul Gorra has impressed on the mound in his first three collegiate appearances. On the year, the righty has given up just one earned run in nine and two-third innings of relief. He carries a 0.93 ERA, giving up just nine hits as opponents are batting just .257 against him.
RECORD IN SIGHT - Senior right fielder Tom Lopusznick begins the week with 138 career RBI's. That mark is tied for the all-time lead at Fairfield with Mike Pike's 138 RBI's knocked in from 1993-1996.
CATCH THEM IF YOU CAN - Paul Macchio and Tom Lopusznick continue to post outstanding numbers on the base paths. Lopusznick is a perfect 9-for-9 in stolen base attempts, while Macchio is also perfect at 7-for-7. Lopusznick has now swiped 68 in 73 attempts during his career. Macchio is 44-for-56 in his four years. As a team, Fairfield is 26-for-32 this season.
