Lawrenceville, NJ - After being swept by Rider on Tuesday, Fairfield bounced back by sweeping the Broncs in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) doubleheader on Sunday. Fairfield improves its record to 8-10 overall, 2-2 in the MAAC, and has now won seven of its last nine games.
Steve Colcord (2-2, North Hampton, NH) tossed a complete game gem in the opener. The right hander gave up just three hits over seven innings, allowing no earned runs, walked two and struck out two. The Stags' ninth hitter, Eddie McCrann (Middle Village, NY), collected two hits, including a solo home run in the fourth inning to help the Stags to the 6-2 victory.
In the nightcap, Ryan Holsten (2-0, Wilmington, Del.) held the Broncs to just one hit until the seventh inning. Ryan Bittner (Emerson, NJ) went 2-for-4 with two RBI and Matt Fratturelli (Leominster, Mass.) went 2-for-3 to lead the Stags to a 5-2 win. Dan Krines (Hintington, NY) got his first save, tossing one inning of shutout relief.
