FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Fairfield University baseball team hosts the University at Albany on Tuesday afternoon at Alumni Diamond. The match up with the Great Danes begins a five-game home stand for the Stags.
Fairfield comes home, after taking two-of-three from Saint Peter's last weekend in Jersey City, N.J. The Stags are 8-14 overall and 4-2 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). Albany is 6-14 overall and 0-0 in the America East.
Last Time Out: Senior John Scaife (Ansonia, Conn./Ansonia) went 1-for-2 with a homerun, four runs scored, and three runs batted in, as Fairfield took the rubber-game of a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) series at Saint Peter's, 10-8.
Quick Hits: Scaife blasted the 12th homerun of his career on Sunday ... Senior Doug Anderson (Randolph, N.J./Delbarton) recorded his 150th career-hit on Saturday against Saint Peter's ... He needs 20 hits to tie Andy Larned (1995-98) for fifth on the school's all-time hits list with 170 ... Freshman Dan Gallagher (Allendale, N.J./Bergen Catholic) had two streaks snapped against Saint Peter's on Saturday afternoon ... Gallagher did not allow a run in his last 12.0 innings of work, before Saint Peter's pushed a run across with two outs in the seventh inning of the first game of the series ... In addition, he had his 16.0 innings without an earned run snapped, as well ... On Sunday he started new streaks, pitching one inning of one-hit ball to earn his third save of the season.
Albany Series: Today's meeting between the Stags and the Great Danes is the second meeting, as the Great Danes scored four runs in the top of the eighth inning to defeat the Stags, 9-6, last season at Alumni Diamond ... The Stags were led by senior Dewey Raymond who was 5-for-5 with a run scored and a run batted in, and Scaife was 2-for-3 with a homerun, and three runs batted in.
Scouting the Great Danes: Albany is 6-14 on the season, after splitting a four-game series against Yale, March 25-26 ... Tom Hill and Al Barbato each lead the team with .359 batting averages ... Hill has 23 hits, five homeruns and 17 runs batted in, while Barbato has 14 hits and six runs batted in ... As a team, Albany is hitting .283 with 13 homeruns and 118 runs scored ... The Albany pitching staff has a team 6.24 earned run average.
