FAIRFIELD, Conn. - After its game with the University at Albany was rained out on Tuesday, the Fairfield University baseball team, hosts Rider in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) series this weekend. Fairfield is 4-2 in the MAAC after taking the last two series from LeMoyne and Saint Peter's. Rider is 3-3 in the MAAC.

Last Time Out: Senior John Scaife went 1-for-2 with a homerun, four runs scored and three runs batted in, as Fairfield took the rubber-game of a MAAC series at Saint Peter's, 10-8.

Quick Hits: Scaife blasted his 12th homerun of his career, and first of the season last Sunday ... He enters the weekend riding a four-game hitting streak, and a four-game MAAC hitting streak ... Sophomore Albie DeSimone also has a four-game MAAC hitting streak ... Senior Doug Anderson recorded his 150th career-hit in the first game of the Saint Peter's series ... Senior Dan Breen tied Lou Vigliotti (1992-95) for sixth place on the school's all-time appearance list with 43 ... He needs 12 more to tie Scott Larkin (1990-93) for first place on the school's all-time list ... Sophomore Peter Allen is second on the team in hitting with a .258 batting average ... With runners in scoring position, Allen is hitting .435 (10-23) ... Freshman Dan Gallagher had his scoreless innings streak snapped at 12.0, and his innings without an earned run at 16.0 snapped against Saint Peter's ... In his first season with the Stags, last season junior Brian Schappert crossed the plate 20 times in 31 games ... With 22 games played so far this year, Schappert has scored 20 runs.

Rider Series: The two teams have met 41 times previously heading into this weekend ... Rider holds the edge, leading the series 29-12 ... The Broncs took two of three from the Stags last series.

Scouting Rider: Rider is 8-19 overall on the season, after defeating Seton Hall, 7-4 on Wednesday afternoon ... Mike Poalise is the team's leading hitter with a .371 batting average with no homeruns and 19 runs batted in ... Gene Crimoli is hitting .354 with four homeruns and 20 runs batted in ... As a team Rider is batting .289 with 159 runs scored ... The Rider pitching staff has a team 6.42 earned run average.

Around the MAAC: Entering this weekend the race for the top four spots in the MAAC is a close call ... Manhattan leads the way with a 5-1 conference record ... Four teams are tied for second with 4-2 records, Fairfield, LeMoyne, Marist and Niagara ... Rider and Saint Peter's are 3-3 in the MAAC, followed by Canisius (1-5), and Iona (0-6) ... Manhattan travels to LeMoyne, Marist travels to Niagara, Siena hosts Saint Peter's, and Iona is at Canisius.
