Fairfield, Conn.--Fairfield university baseball player Ryan Bittner (Emerson, NJ) was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) baseball Player of the Week, it was announced this afternoon by the conference office. Bittner captures the award for the second consecutive week, after leading the Stags to 10-19 overall and 8-7 in the MAAC, including a five game win streak in conference play through Saturday.
Bittner, a graduate of Bergen Catholic High School, had a strong offensive week, hitting .571 in the Stags four games, and stretching his hitting streak to 13 games, with a single in the second game of Saturday's double-header with Manhattan. Bittner drove in five run s on the week as he slugged .786 percent for the week.
Bittner is hitting .358 on the year, second on the Stags, while driving in a team-best 21 RBI. He has nine extra base hits, including a team-leading seven doubles, along with a triple and a homerun. His .410 on-base percentage is second on the team as is his .472 slugging percentage. The Stags starting first baseman, Bittner has a team-high 249 putouts, along with 17 assists, while committing just six errors, in his 29 games played.
Fairfield dropped a 12-4 decision to Manhattan on Monday, with Bittner having his hitting streak snapped at 13 games. The Stags will return to action on Tuesday, April 17th, traveling to Pace University for a 3:00 pm contest.
