On Deck... The Fairfield University baseball team plays its fifth game in four days, when the University of Rhode Island comes to Alumni Diamond for a non-conference game. The Rams sit atop the Atlantic-10 Conference with an 8-4 mark, and have a 14-17 overall record.
All-Time vs. Rhode Island... The Stags lead the all-time series with the Rams 10-9.
Hot Bats... Against Saint Peter's on Monday juniors Greg Batista and Nick Hudyma had very productive outings. Batista led the way by going 4-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI, while Hudyma went 3-for-4 with two runs scored.
About Rhode Island... Rhode Island enters today's game riding a two-game winning streak after taking a weekend series from St. Bonaventure.
Yesterday... Pace University would score six runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to break the game open, and cruise to a 10-1 victory over the Fairfield University baseball team at Finnerty Field on Tuesday afternoon.
The Stags (6-18-1, 4-7 MAAC) broke the ice in the top of the first inning, with a walk with the bases loaded by the Setters (5-25) starter Jonathan Huff.
But, Pace would come back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third inning, along with single runs in the fourth and fifth innings before batting around in the bottom of the seventh.
Fairfield, was playing in its fourth game in three days, was led at the plate by junior Greg Batista and freshman Doug Anderson who each went 1-for-4.
Ricky Piovesan had a hot bat for the Setters going 2-for-5 with three runs batted in, and two runs scored.
Quick Hits... Mark Geanuleas who had hit in the leadoff spot the last two games reached base three times against Pace on Tuesday afternoon. He got hit by a pitch twice and drew a walk. Geanuleas is tied with Andy Lynn for the team lead in hit by pitches with five apiece... Lynn and Sal Mancuso lead the Stags with nine multiple hit games this season. Greg Batista is right behind with eight, and Antuan Barnett and Nick Hudyma each have seven...After hitting .235 after the middle game of the Niagara series Greg Batista has improved his average to .326 heading into today's action. He leads the team with 18 RBI, and 29 hits.
Up Next... Fairfield begins an 11-game road trip with a weekend Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) series at Marist College.
