FAIRFIELD, Conn. - After two mid-week wash outs, the Fairfield University baseball team will return to the diamond for its first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) road series this weekend at Siena College. Fairfield has won three of its last four games, to up its record to 9-11 overall, and 5-4 in the MAAC.
Siena is 13-16 overall, and 3-4 in MAAC action, after falling to Hofstra, 8-7 in 11 innings on Thursday afternoon.
All-Time vs. Siena... Siena leads the all-time series with the Stags 12-6. Last season Siena swept the three-game series at Alumni Diamond, winning 2-1, 6-4, and 6-0.
Quick Hits... Senior Nick Hudyma (New Britain, Conn./New Britain) is 25th in the Nation with 12 stolen bases. He is second in the MAAC, behind LeMoyne's Kyle Brown ... Senior Tom Maisano (Farmingdale, N.Y./Chaminade) is 11th in the Nation with a 1.54 ERA in 35.0 innings of work this season ... Maisano is also tied for first in win with a perfect 4-0 record ... Fairfield will now play Connecticut in a make-up game from April 1, as part of a doubleheader on April 20 in Storrs, Conn. The Stags and the Huskies will play two seven-inning games beginning at 2 p.m. ... Fairfield is fifth in the MAAC with a team batting average of .261 ... The Stags are also fifth in the MAAC in slugging percentage with a team percentage of .365 ... Siena is fifth in the MAAC in on-base percentage with a .340 mark ... Siena leads the league drawing 104 walk through last weekend's games ... Maisano needs nine strikeouts to tie Steve Becker (1988-91) for third place on the school's all-time strikeout list ... He also needs three more wins to move into a three-way tie for fourth place on Fairfield's all-time wins list ... Sophomore Doug Anderson (Randolph, N.J./Delbarton) leads the team with a .386 on-base percentage ... His is hitting .290 with three homeruns and 15 runs batted in. Anderson is also hitting .467 with runners in scoring position ... Last weekend against Rider several Stags had some solid performances, senior Antuan Barnett (Bronx, N.Y./Rice) batted .384 with two homeruns, seven runs batted in, and six runs scored. He has a .533 slugging percentage, and lead the team with 19 RBI, and 16 runs scored ... Senior Sal Mancuso (Bethpage, N.Y./Bethpage) went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and a triple against Rider in the extra inning classic, last Thursday afternoon ... As a team the Saints are hitting .259, and .240 with runners in scoring position ... Tony Cipolla is hitting a team-best .327 with three homeruns and 24 runs batted in for the Saints ... Shawn Hampton is second on the team with a .307 batting average and 17 runs batted in ... The Saints have nine homeruns as a team, while its opponents have smacked 29.
Up Next... The Stags will have a busy week next week, as they are scheduled to play six games, beginning with a rescheduled doubleheader at Connecticut on Tuesday afternoon. Fairfield returns to Alumni Diamond the next day with a non-conference game against Yale.
