FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Fairfield University baseball team, will look to find its winning ways, against a pair of in-state rivals, beginning with the University of Connecticut on Tuesday afternoon. The Stags and the Huskies will play two seven-inning games beginning at 2 p.m. On Wednesday the Stags will host Yale at Alumni Diamond on Wednesday afternoon, at 3:30 p.m.
Fairfield is 9-14 overall and 5-7 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC), after getting swept at Siena College over the weekend.
UConn. enters Tuesday's twin bill with a 17-17 overall record, and a 5-8 mark in the Big East. Yale is 13-15 overall, and 8-4 in the Ivy League, and has won three of its last four games before facing the University of Hartford on Tuesday afternoon.
All-Time vs. Connecticut... The Huskies are 45-12-1 overall against the Stags, and defeated Fairfield 13-8 at Alumni Diamond on April 2, 2003.
All-Time vs. Yale... The Bulldogs hold a 15-12 all-time series lead against the Stags. Last year, Yale defeated the Stags 13-6 at Yale Field on April 21, 2003.
Quick Hits... Head Coach John Slosar is a 1972 graduate of Connecticut, and was a member of the 1972 College World Series for the Huskies ... Fairfield and Yale will play on April 21 for the second year in a row ... Against Siena senior Antuan Barnett (Bronx, N.Y./Rice) was 2-for-4 with a run scored and his seventh double of the season in the first game of the series ... In the final game of the Siena series the Rice High School graduate stoked his second triple of the season ... Senior Tom Maisano (Farmingdale, N.Y./Chaminade) needs only three strikeouts to tie Steve Becker (1988-91) for third place on Fairfield's all-time strikeout list. Against Siena last Saturday, he struck out six hitters ... A win against Yale on Wednesday at home, will give the Stags an above .500 record at Alumni Diamond. Fairfield enters the week with a 6-6 record at home, including a 5-4 mark against MAAC opponents ... Junior lefty Tim Dugan (Cedar, Grove, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) leads the team with 37 strikeouts ... Sophomore Doug Anderson (Randolph, N.J./Delbarton) is the team's leading hitter with a .308 batting average. He also has a team-best .398 on-base percentage, and has scored 15 runs, and driven in 16 RBI ... Against Siena last Saturday, Anderson was 2-for-3 with his fourth double of the season.
Looking Ahead... Fairfield will meet Niagara in a MAAC series this weekend in Western New York. Next week Fairfield will have a pair of non-conference games against Fordham (4/28) and a make up game against Stony Brook (4/29) at Alumni Diamond.
