FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Senior first baseman John Scaife (Ansonia, Conn./Ansonia) recently became the sixth member of the 100-RBI club at Fairfield University. Scaife entered last weekend's Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) series with Manhattan needing seven to reach the plateau. He accomplished the feat, by knocking in five runners in Saturday's doubleheader win and a pair in the series finale on Monday.

In the 7-5 nightcap win last Saturday, he drove in five runners, which is three shy of the school-record for single-games, by going 2-for-3 with a homerun and a double. He blasted a two-run homerun in the top of the first inning, then added another with a sacrifice fly, and then added two more with a two-run double in the top of the seventh inning.

On Monday, he hit a solo homerun in the fourth, and added another in the sixth, to reach the milestone. On Wednesday in the second game of a doubleheader against Yale, he recorded his 101st RBI with a base hit to left field in the first inning.

The senior captain needs eight more RBI to tie Mike Svab (1987-90), for fifth on the school's all-time list. As a junior last season, he knocked in 47 runners, which is good for second for RBI in a season at Fairfield.

In 2005, Scaife had a career-high .304 batting average with seven homeruns. The 47 runs batted in, placed him fifth in the MAAC standings. He was also second in walks with 30, and fifth with seven homeruns. He led the team with 51 hits, and 83 total bases.

He has come on of late, as against Manhattan he was 4-for-11 with three homeruns, seven runs batted in and four runs scored.

Fairfield returns home for a three-game series against Marist College, this weekend at Alumni Diamond. The Stags and Red Foxes will play a doubleheader on Saturday at 12 p.m., and the series will conclude with a single nine-inning game on Sunday at 12 p.m.
