Riverdale, N.Y. - Sophomore Ryan Bittner (Emerson, N.J.) cracked a grand slam in the eighth inning to help the Fairfield University (16-17, 9-7 MAAC) baseball team to a 5-4 win over Manhattan College this afternoon. The Stags took two out of three from the Jaspers this week as they also received a grand slam from Matt Ciardelli (Milford, N.H.) in yesterday's 8-4 win.

Trailing 3-1 in the top of the eighth, Matt McGoldrick (Butler, N.J.) drew a two-out walk to get the Stags' rally going. After Matt Ciardelli dropped down a bunt base-hit, Jon Novalis (Florham Park, N.J.) beat out another infield hit to load the bases. Bittner promptly followed with his blast to right center to give the Stags a 5-3 lead.

Manhattan rallied with a run in the bottom of the ninth, but Stag starter Steve Colcord (N. Hampton, N.H.) stopped the threat with two men on by inducing a ground ball out to end the game. Colcord scattered nine hits to earn his second straight win.
