FAIRFIELD, Conn. - When the Bridgeport Bluefish open the 2005 season this evening at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard, in Bridgeport, Conn., they will do so, with former Fairfield University pitcher Dan Krines as a member of the team.
Krines joined the Bluefish this past off-season, after spending the last two seasons with River City of the Independent Frontier League. In his first season with River City, he was 7-2 with a 3.73 earned run average, in 89.1 innings of work.
In two minor league seasons, Krines has a 10-12 overall record in 42 appearances (22 starts), a 4.09 earned run average, and has recorded 86 strikeouts.
He will look to come out of the bullpen for the Bluefish this season, as early on, the entire bullpen will be used in both long and short relief situations.
As a member of the Fairfield baseball team, Krines enjoyed his best season, in 2000, as he was 8-2 with a 3.39 ERA in 103.2 innings of work. He also played two seasons for the Chatham A's of the Cape Cod League, and was named the Co-Pitcher of the Year in 2000.
He ranks second all-time at Fairfield with 18 complete games. In 2000, he was a second-team All-New England pick, and a second-team All-Northeast selection. He was also a member of the Fairfield University football team, from 1998-2000.
Last season, the Bluefish finished 72-54, just missing out on a spot in the Atlantic League Playoffs.
Bridgeport opens the 2005 campaign with a four-game home stand against the Long Island Ducks. First pitch, for this evening's game is slated for 7:05 p.m. The Bluefish and the Ducks will play at 7:05 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights, and will finish the series with a 1:35 p.m. first pitch on Sunday afternoon.
