FAIRFIELD, Conn. - When the Bridgeport Bluefish take the field this evening for the 2006 opener at the Newark Bears, they will do so with former Fairfield University baseball pitcher Dan Krines on the roster.

Last season, Krines was selected to the Atlantic League All-Star Game as an alternate, and pitched a perfect ninth inning to help the North squad to a 9-6 victory over the South.

The Huntington, N.Y. native garnered seven wins, in his first season in a Bluefish uniform. He appeared in 47 games, and logged 75.0 innings of work. He struck out 56 batters, while walking only 25.

Before joining the Bluefish last season, Krines spent two years with the River City Rascals of the Frontier League. In his first season with River City, he recorded a 7-2 record with a 3.73 earned run average in 89.1 innings. He made 42 appearances in two seasons and struck out 86 hitters in that span.

As a member of the Fairfield baseball team, Krines enjoyed his best season in 2000, as he was 8-2 with a 3.39 ERA. He also played two seasons for the Chatham A's of the Cape Cod League, and was named Co-Pitcher of the Year in 2000.

He ranks second all-time at Fairfield with 18 complete games. In 2000, he was a second-team All-New England pick, and a second-team All-Northeast selection. He was also a member of the Fairfield University football team from 1998-2000.

The Bluefish enter the 2006 campaign under new leadership, as Dave LaPoint, who played 12 seasons in the majors, with nine teams, begins his first season as manager. He was a member of the 1982 World Series Champion St. Louis Cardinals.

The Bluefish open the season with a three-game series on the road at Newark, before the home opener on Wednesday, May 1, at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard, against the Long Island Ducks.
