FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Fairfield University baseball team travels to Niagara University for a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) series with the Purple Eagles. Fairfield enters the weekend coming off a 5-4 win over the University of Connecticut on Tuesday afternoon.
Quick Hits: With two innings of only one walk baseball on Tuesday against Connecticut, freshman Dan Gallagher moved into second place on the school's all-time list for saves in a season with six ... The Bergen Catholic graduate, moved past Scott Larkin (1991) and Keith D'Amato (1981), who each had five ... Larkin had 10 saves in 1992 for the top spot ... He has not allowed a run in his last seven innings of work, after posting a 12.0 scoreless innings streak earlier this season ... Senior Doug Anderson needs 10 hits for 40 on the year ... Anderson has recorded 40 or more hits in each of his first three seasons at Fairfield, and has 163 entering this weekend, which is seven shy of Andy Larned (1995-98) for fifth place on the school's all-time list ... With six strikeouts against Marist on Monday, junior Ed Kamintzky has 135 K's in his Fairfield career ... In MAAC games this season senior John Scaife has scored 14 runs which is fifth in conference ... Scaife is also tied for first with four homeruns in MAAC contests ... Senior Jim Girolamo is 6-of-7 in stolen base attempts in MAAC games this season ... Fairfield is first in the MAAC with a .962 fielding percentage ... Although freshman Dave Jermine has seen limited action this year he has made the most of it, as he is 7-of-19 (.368) with two doubles and four runs scored ... In five games, freshman George Lisi is 3-for-10 (.300) with one homerun, a double and three runs batted in.
Fairfield-Niagara Series History: The two teams have met 23 times previously heading into this weekend's action ... Fairfield leads the all-time series 17-6 ... Last season, the Stags took two games in the three-game series ... After falling 6-2 in the opener, the Stags won the second game 6-5, and the rubber-game 6-4.
Around the MAAC: This weekend's MAAC slate has Canisius traveling to LeMoyne, the Stags and Purple Eagles, Siena hosting Iona, Manhattan heading to Marist, and Saint Peter's visiting Rider.
Scouting the Purple Eagles: Niagara is 19-19 on the year, and 10-5 in the MAAC ... As a team the Purple Eagles are hitting .284 with 207 runs scored ... Andrew MacNevin leads the team with a .360 batting average with four home runs and 24 runs batted in ... Dan Parsons is hitting .350 with one home run and 19 runs batted in ...
