New Haven, Conn. - The Fairfield University baseball team dropped an 8-4 decision at the hands of Yale University this afternoon. Despite the loss, the Stags set a new single season program record for steals in a season, swiping their 119th of the year. That mark eclipses the old standard of 118 set by the 1977 team. Fairfield drops to 22-22 overall. Yale improves to 14-27.

The Stags held two leads at 1-0 through three and a half innings and 2-1 after five and a half, but couldn't hold the Bulldogs down. Yale posted five runs in the bottom of the sixth to pull out to a 6-2 lead. Fairfield answered with two runs in the top of the seventh on a Paul Macchio (Carmel, N.Y.) home run, but Yale got both runs back in the bottom of the inning to go back up 8-4. Macchio finished 3-for-5 on the day for the Stags. Yale outhit Fairfield 14-6.

Fairfield will close out its Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) schedule when they host MAAC North leader Siena in a doubleheader on Sunday at 12:00 pm.
