FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Fairfield University baseball team head down I-95 for a key Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) series with Iona College at J.B. Buono Field in New Rochelle, N.Y., this Saturday and Sunday.
The Stags and Gaels will face each other in a doubleheader on Saturday, and a single nine-inning game on Sunday. Fairfield is 12-19 overall and in fifth-place in the MAAC with a 7-8 record. Iona is 14-24 overall, and right behind the Stags with a 6-7 mark in the MAAC.
All-time vs. Iona... The two teams have met 96 times prior to this weekend's series, with the Gaels holding a 51-45 edge. Iona has won the last four meetings with the Stags.
Quick Hits... Sophomore Kit Golofaro made his collegiate debut on Thursday against Stony Brook, and pitched three innings of shutout relief, giving up only one run and one walk ... Sophomore Doug Anderson smacked his fourth homerun of the season, and fifth of his career against Stony Brook on Thursday ... Sophomore John Scaife belted his first homer of the season and fourth of his career the day before against Fordham ... Senior Tom Maisano needs only one more strikeout to move into sole possession of third place on the school's all-time strikeout list. He is tied with Steve Becker with 177 career strikeouts ... Maisano is 4-1 on the season with a 2.83 ERA, and 37 strikeouts on the season ... Freshman Ed Kamintzky is 4-0 with a 2.53 ERA in 21.1 innings of work. He has struck out 20 hitters and opposing batters are hitting .177 against him ... Junior David Soucy is the Stags leading hitter with a .304 batting average, after going 1-for-3 against Stony Brook on Thursday ... Senior Nick Hudyma is second on the team with a .294 batting average after going 2-for-4 with one run batted in and one run scored ... Iona has lost three of its last five games heading into this weekend's series with the Stags, including two of three non-conference games earlier this week ... Matt Callahan is Iona's leading hitter with a .350 batting average, and had 16 runs batted in ... Rob Fortner-Villanova is hitting .338 with 11 homeruns and 31 runs batted in ... On the hill Sean Kramer is 5-6 with a 3.45 ERA and 76 strikeouts in 75.2 innings of work.
Around the MAAC... Marist and LeMoyne will play a three-game set in Syracuse for a meeting of the top two teams in the MAAC. Siena travels to Canisius, Saint Peter's is at Manhattan and Niagara travels to Rider.
Looking Ahead... Fairfield hosts LeMoyne in a three-game series for the final home games at Alumni Diamond this season. The Stags will finish up the regular season with three-game sets at Saint Peter's (May 15-16) and Manhattan (May 20-21).
