On Deck... The Fairfield University baseball team heads to Rider University for a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) series on Saturday and Sunday. The Stags enter the weekend series with the Broncs with a 6-26-1 overall record, and a 4-13 mark in the MAAC.
All-Time vs. Rider... Rider holds a 23-9 all-time series lead against the Stags. Rider took two-of-three from Fairfield at Alumni Diamond last season.
About Rider... Rider enters this weekend's action with a 15-20 overall record, and an 8-10 mark in the MAAC.
Last Time Out... LeMoyne College completed a three-game Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) series sweep of the Fairfield University baseball team, by taking a 10-1 decision at Dick Rockwell Field, on Sunday afternoon.
The lone Stags (6-26-1, 4-13 MAAC) run came in the top of the first inning when junior Andy Lynn (Montville, N.J./Delbarton) homered to right field. Fairfield smacked five round trippers in the three game series.
The Dolphins (22-10, 16-0 MAAC) came back in the bottom of the first inning with a run, and posted four in the bottom of the second, three in the third, and two in the fourth.
Freshman Doug Anderson (Randolph, N.J./Delbarton) went 2-for-4 on the afternoon, and Lynn would go 1-for-2.
Fairfield used four pitchers on the afternoon, as starter Pablo Tamayo (Miami, Fla./Ransom Everglades) was touched for eight runs on nine hits, in two and a third innings of work. Sophomore Tim Dugan (Cedar Grove, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) came on scattering two runs on four hits, while striking out six, in three and two-thirds innings pitched. Pat Quinn (Little Falls, N.J./Passaic Valley), and Matt Thiffault (Natick, Mass./Natick) each gave up a hit in one inning of work.
Quick Hits... The Stags took advantage of the long ball in their series against LeMoyne. Fairfield had five home runs led by sophomore Greg Batista who had two in the nightcap on Saturday afternoon. Junior Nick Hudyma, freshman John Scaife, and junior Andy Lynn each went yard for the Stags last weekend...Batista is having a fine season for the Stags hitting .303 with a team-high six homeruns, and 24 runs batted in. The Long Island, native is sporting a robust .521 slugging percentage with a team-high, 62 total bases... Junior Tom Maisano looks to get back on the winning track this weekend, after dropping his last two starts. Maisano leads the Stags with 43 strikeouts... Lynn leads the Stags with a .318 batting average and also has a very respectable .405 on-base percentage...
Up Next... After finishing up the three-game set with the Broncs on Sunday, Fairfield returns to Alumni Diamond next weekend for a three-game MAAC series with Iona College, starting May 10.
