Centerfielder Jason Rago (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Prep) was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Rookie of the Week after batting .636 to help the Stags' to a 3-2 week.
Rago broke out of a slump to have an outstanding week, going 14-for-22 with six runs scored, six runs batted in, and two stolen bases. Rago started the week off with a record-setting performance against Sacred Heart by going 5-for-6 with two runs scored and four RBI. He became the tenth Stag to notch five hits in a game and the first since 2005. Rago's five hits were all singles, which tied the single game record set by Bob Kownacki in 1976.
In Fairfield's win against Hartford, he had three hits, including two doubles, with three runs scored.
In the three game-series against Manhattan (30-13, 19-1 MAAC), Rago went 6-for-10 with a run scored and an RBI. Rago was instrumental in helping the Stags hand the Jaspers their first MAAC loss of the season on May 2. He went Rago went 3-for-3 with a walk and a run scored.
Rago, who entered the week batting .179, raised his average to .258, good for fourth on the team. After 37 games played, he is third on the squad in RBI (20), runs scored (18), and walks (12).
Fairfield (14-26, 8-12 MAAC) will travel to Marist College, May 12-13, for a three game series. The Stags close out their 2007 campaign at Rider College, May 17-18.
