Fairfield, Conn. - The Fairfield University (25-19, 17-8 MAAC) baseball team wrapped up a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Tournament berth with a thrilling 2-1, 13-inning victory at Siena on Saturday. For his efforts in the clincher, Fairfield's Dan Krines (Huntington, N.Y.) was named MAAC Pitcher of the Week.
Krines went the first 11 innings in the victory, allowing just five hits and one earned run. The sophomore righty struck out three Saints and walked just one. During his last four starts, Krines is 3-0 with three complete games and is now 6-1 against MAAC opponents this year with a 3.20 ERA. On the season, he leads the Stags with a 7-2 record, a 3.61 ERA and eight complete games. His 94.2 innings pitched is just 3.1 innings shy of setting a new single season program record.
Fairfield will take on number two seed Le Moyne (32-14, 18-7 MAAC) at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 18, in the first round of the MAAC Tournament at Dutchess Stadium in Fishkill, N.Y. The other first round game of the double-elimination tournament will pit MAAC regular season champion Iona (31-12, 22-4 MAAC) against fourth seed and host Marist (30-17-2, 16-11 MAAC) at 8:00 p.m. The championship game is slated for 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 20. The winner will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
