FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Fairfield University baseball team enjoyed a productive offensive output last weekend in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) series at Canisius College. Fairfield took two-of-three against the Griffs, while scoring 34 runs in the three games.
The Stags also pounded out 36 hits, and belted 11 homeruns, including six in a 14-11 win in the opener. Juniors Dewey Raymond and John Scaife each belted a pair in the game, and junior Tom Arpino and senior Mark Geanuleas each added solo shots. Raymond was 3-for-5 at the plate with three runs scored, and Scaife had four RBIs for the Stags.
In the nightcap of Saturday's doubleheader, Arpino, who had three RBI in the opener, went yard again, for his second homerun of the day, as he was 2-for-3 with three runs, and three RBI. Scaife was 3-for-3 with two doubles and three runs scored.
In Sunday's series finale, it was Geanuleas' turn to have a hot day, as he belted a pair of homeruns going 4-for-6 at the plate with three runs scored and two RBI. Junior Doug Anderson would also get into the act with a two-run shot in the seventh, as he scored three runs on the afternoon. Freshman Tyler Birrittella ripped a solo shot in the fourth. Raymond went 1-for-1 at the plate as he drew three walks, and scored three runs.
Scaife finished the weekend, hitting .583 (7-12) with two homeruns, five runs batted in, and seven runs scored. On the year the Ansonia, Conn. native, is hitting .314 with a team-best seven homeruns, 46 runs batted in and 49 runs scored. He also leads the team with a .519 slugging percentage.
Geanuleas hit .462 (6-13) with three homeruns, six runs scored, and four runs batted in.
Fairfield returns to action this weekend, as it closes out the regular season, hosting Manhattan College in a three-game MAAC series at Alumni Diamond. The teams will play a doubleheader on Friday starting at 12 p.m. The series will conclude on Saturday with a single game, with first pitch slated for 12 p.m.
