NEWBURGH, N.Y. - Two Fairfield University baseball players were named to the 2003 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Baseball All-Academic Team, as the Conference announced the 31-member squad on Thursday morning at the MAAC Tournament Banquet held at the Ramada Inn-Stewart-Airport.

Junior Nick Hudyma (New Britain, Conn./New Britain) and sophomore Mark Geanuleas (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./New Church) represented the Stags on the All-Academic Team.

Iona led all schools with six members named to the team. Canisius, Manhattan, Niagara, and Saint Peter's each had four student-athletes, while LeMoyne had three. Fairfield and Siena both had two members, while Marist and Rider rounded out the team with one player apiece.

To be eligible for the MAAC All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must complete two semesters at their institution, be a significant starter or reserve and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a 4.0 scale.

Hudyma makes his second straight appearance on the team, as he was named to the 2002 MAAC All-Academic Team. The management major hit .243 this past season with 13 runs batted in and three homeruns. The New Britain, Conn., native had a .327 on-base percentage and a .400 slugging percentage. He had 34 hits, and 18 runs scored, at second base for the Stags in 2003.

Geanuleas, an English major had eight hits and nine runs scored. He led the team with eight hit-by-pitches.
