POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Fairfield University junior shortstop Doug Anderson (Randolph, N.J./Delbarton), and freshman outfielder Brian Rudolph (Washington Township, N.J./Bergen Catholic) garnered All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) honors Wednesday evening at the MAAC Baseball Awards Banquet.
Anderson, garnered first-team All-MAAC honors at shortstop, after hitting .292 with two homeruns and 27 runs batted in. He finished the season third on the team with 49 hits, while leading the team with 32 runs scored. He was third in the MAAC in stolen bases, being successful in 16-of-18 attempts.
The New Jersey native was also stellar in the field, as he had a .975 fielding percentage, committing six errors in 240 chances, helping Fairfield to a .967 team fielding percentage, which led the MAAC at the end of the regular season.
Rudolph, burst onto the scene, in his first collegiate season, after hitting .305 with two homeruns and 23 runs batted in. He finished the regular season tied for third in the MAAC with 16 doubles, and at one point this season was ranked as high as sixth in the NCAA rankings.
The Bergen Catholic grad was second on the team with 50 hits, of which 20 were for extra bases, and he was tied for second on the team with 31 runs scored. Rudolph was named MAAC Rookie of the Week on April 5, after hitting .625 (10-16) with four doubles, three runs, four RBI, and a stolen base in three games.
Earlier this season, he had a 10-game hitting streak, where he hit .524 (22-42) with a homerun, 10 runs batted in, 12 runs scored, and nine doubles from March 19-April 4.
In addition, Fairfield had five players named to the MAAC All-Academic Team, as senior second baseman Mark Geanuleas (Glenside, Pa./Academy of the New Church), junior centerfielder, Jim Girolamo (Wayland, Mass./Wayland), sophomore pitcher Ed Kamintzky (Astoria, N.Y./Regis), junior third baseman Dewey Raymond (Norwalk, Conn./Trinity Catholic), and sophomore infielder Brian Schappert (Wyckoff, N.J./St. Joseph's) earned spots on the 51-player team.
Niagara led all schools with eight, followed by Canisius and Iona with seven. Fairfield, Manhattan, and Rider each had five. Marist, Saint Peter's, and Siena added four, and Le Moyne had two.
