Fairfield, Conn.--Fairfield University baseball players Ryan Holsten (Wilmington, DE) and Jon Novalis (Florham Park, NJ) were selected to play in the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) All-Star game, to be played June 1st, at Fenway Park, in Boston, Mass. Game time is set for 12:00 noon.
Holsten was the ace of the Stags pitching staff this season, posting a 6-4 record. He allowed just 18 earned runs in 73.1 innings of work, for a career-best 2.45 ERA. He struck out 50 batters this season, and opponents hit just .241 against him. A 2001 graduate of Fairfield, Holsten finished his four-year career with 15 wins and 114 strikeouts in 197.1 career innings pitched.
Novalis, a junior, was the Stags leading offensive threat this spring, hitting a team-high .380, with 60 hits in 158 at-bats. He had 15 extra-base hits, including five round trippers this spring. Novalis had a .557 slugging percentage and drove in 26 runs in his 41 games played. Novalis also swiped seven bases on the year and scored a team-high 33 runs.
The Stags finished the 2001 campaign with a 17-28 overall record and at 14-13 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC).
