EDISON, N.J. - Two Fairfield University baseball players garnered spots on the New York Lottery/Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) All-Academic Team, over the weekend at the 2004 MAAC Baseball Tournament.

Junior Mark Geanuleas (Glenside, Pa./Academy of the New Church) and senior Matt Young (Berlin, Conn./Berlin), were among 41 student-athletes named to the post season team by the MAAC.

Geanuleas earned his second appearance on the MAAC All-Academic squad, while this is Young's first appearance on the team.

Geanuleas, was used primarily as a pinch runner, and appeared in 12 games for the Stags this season. The English major scored five runs for the Stags. Young went 2-4 for the Stags on the hill in 12 appearances this past spring. The Computer Information Systems major also struck out 43 hitters in 57.1 innings of work this past season for the Stags.

To be eligible for the MAAC All-Academic Team, as student-athlete must complete two semesters at their institution, be a significant starter or reserve and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a 4.0 scale.

Niagara led all schools with nine members, followed by Rider with seven, Manhattan and Marist with five each. Canisius and Iona had four players named to the team, while Saint Peter's had three. The Stags were joined with Le Moyne with a pair, and Siena rounded out the team with one.
