FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Senior-to-be Doug Anderson (Randolph, N.J./Delbarton) of the Fairfield University baseball team is off to a hot start for his summer NCAA and Major League Baseball sanctioned wood bat baseball league team.
Anderson who was a first-team All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) selection for the Stags this past season is hitting .324 with six runs batted in with games played through June 24, for the Jersey Pilots of the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League (ACBL).
The Fairfield shortstop leads the Pilots, and is tied for 11th in the league in hitting. He has 12 hits, including two doubles, and has scored seven runs. In addition, he has drawn 14 walks, and sports a .510 on-base percentage.
Last summer for the Pilots he was part of an ACBL Championship team, hitting .289 and belting 14 runs batted in.
In addition to Anderson, rising sophomore John Glancy (Hinsdale, Ill./Fenwick) is also playing in a wood bat league this summer. Glancy is playing for the Carolina Chaos of the Southern Collegiate Baseball League (SCBL). He is batting .263 with five hits and a run scored in eight games for the Chaos.
Glancy is playing in his first collegiate wood bat season. This past spring for the Stags, he appeared in three games collecting a run scoring single in his first collegiate at-bat against VMI on March 7.
