FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Fairfield University shortstop Doug Anderson (Randolph, N.J./Delbarton), a member of the Jersey Pilots, was selected to play in the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League (ACBL) All-Star Game, this evening at the Ballpark at St. John's, on the campus of St. John's University.
Anderson, a member of the Wolff Division All-Stars, is hitting .286 (22-77) in 26 games with nine runs batted in. The New Jersey native has 22 hits on the season with three doubles, and a triple, while drawing 25 walks.
This is Anderson's second All-Star appearance in the ACBL, as he was selected the starting shortstop for the Wolff All-Stars last season. He also helped the Pilots to the 2004 ACBL Championship.
The Kaiser Division won last year's game, 3-1, as nine pitchers combined for a no-hitter. Anderson helped set up his team's only run of the game, grounding into a fielder's choice, moving teammate David Jeans to third base. Two walks later, Jeans scored the lone run of the game for the Wolff All-Stars.
Anderson was a first-team All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) selection this past season for the Stags. He batted .292 with two homeruns and 27 runs batted in. He was third on the team in hits with 49, while leading Fairfield with 32 runs scored.
He finished third in the MAAC with 16 stolen bases, and in the field, had a .975 fielding percentage, helping Fairfield to a league-best .967 fielding percentage.
The ACBL is a NCAA and Major League Baseball sanctioned wood bat league, which fields teams in Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania.
First pitch for the league's 36th annual All-Star game is slated for 7 p.m. Admission is free to all, and there will be free raffle prizes and giveaways. For more information please contact Edward Kull via e-mail at kulle@stjohns.edu, or check out the ACBL website at www.acbl-online.com.
